POPCORN CEILING REMOVAL YOURSELF

When removing your popcorn ceiling you will need some tools to get started

Pump sprayer, water, scraper, plastic, tape, wet vac

You want to first prep your area of work where the wet nasty popcorn will fall to when you scrape it, you will do this by plasticing off the edge under the ceiling and your floors to create a big bag for the popcorn to fall into.

Tape around your edges and gaps to make sure you have slack in the plastic to move on but also it is closed up so no popcorn gets through.

Once your have all areas covered, floors, walls, hardware, fans etc you are ready to start wetting and scraping that old dusty popcorn off!

Popcorn Ceiling Removal Process

You want to fist start with your pump sprayer and water, begin apply a nice soak to the ceiling, almost to where it is dripping water off, or right before.

Let it soak in a bit and then you are ready to scrape that area.

We recommend going through and spraying all areas so prior areas take time to soak and go back and assess if you need to apply more water.

The ceiling being wet will allow the popcorn to scrap off like butter and will save time from having to sand the left over drywall to create a even flat surface.

Make sure you get all of the pesky popcorn in the corners. You can slide your knife a certain to get it all pretty easy

SANDING

After your ceiling is scraped you will want to get a pole sander in case there are areas that need to be sanded down for that even surface.

Please always where a mask when dealing with paint or drywall there are studies shown how it can really negatively effect our health if consumed or breathed in.

Now that the sanding is all done, go shake the dust off and get ready to paint or apply knockdown texture or texture of your choice!
